Causes of QuickBooks Vacation Accrual Error
There can be several factors triggering the QuickBooks Vacation Accrual Error. We have listed here some of the most common ones below-
- Incorrect items are recorded in the Payroll section.
- Wrong setup of Employee Sick/Vacation.
- The employee has reached the provided upper hour limit.
- The Do Not Accrue Sick/Vacation Pay option has been selected.
Note– Before we jump on to the solutions, let us look at a few simple steps that help us in recording the Sick/Vacation Pay in QuickBooks Payroll-
- Access QuickBooks Payroll.
- Click on the Payroll button.
- Tap on Employees.
- Choose Run Payroll.
- Now, select the employees you have to pay.
- Choose the salaried employee.
- Add their respective Sick Pay or Vacation Pay hours.
- Press the Preview Payroll option.
- Verify the Payroll information.
- Finally, hit Submit Payroll.
Solutions for QuickBooks Vacation Accrual Error
You can either check the Do Not Accrue Sick/Vacation Pay box every time you create a paycheck, or you can manually amend the Sick/Vacation set up for the particular employee. Here is how-
Define the Payroll Item Set up:
- Open QuickBooks.
- Click on Lists.
- Select Payroll Item List.
- From the list, double-tap on the item selected to pay Sick/Vacation.
- Move to the Edit Payroll item window.
- Check the type of payroll item used.
- You may use a different or a new item if the current one is incorrect.
- Ensure that the Vacation only accrues on items like hourly wages or salary, and not bonus items.
Validate the Employee Profile
- Click on the Employees button.
- Select Employee Center.
- Double-tap on the Employee Name.
- Move to the Edit Employee field.
- Tap on Payroll Information.
- Click on Sick/Vacation.
- You need to alter the following areas as per requirement-
- Sick and vacation hours available.
- Hours used in the year.

Uncheck the Do Not Accrue Sick/Vacation Box
- Click on the Employees button.
- Select Payroll Center.
- Tap on Pay Employees.

- Hit Edit.
- Press the Paycheck Detail button.
- Move to the Review Paycheck window.
- Ensure that do not accrue sick/vacation pay box is unchecked.
- Tap on Save & Close.
Update QuickBooks
- Open QuickBooks.
- Click on the Help menu.
- Select Update QuickBooks.
- Tap on Update Now.
- Choose the updates you wish to download.
- Click on Get Updates.
- Shut and relaunch the QuickBooks application.
- A permission window will be displayed.
- Tap on Install Now (Yes) to install the update.
Update Payroll Tax Table
- Open QuickBooks Payroll.
- Click on Employees.
- Tap on Get Payroll Updates.
- Choose the Download Entire Update option.
- Select Download Latest Update.
- Confirm the installation.
- After the completion window shows up, reboot your computer.
